Choghadiya is a simple muhurta system for picking a good time. The day from sunrise to sunset, and the night from sunset to the next sunrise, are each divided into eight parts of about ninety minutes. Each part is one of seven choghadiya, ruled by a planet and classed as good, neutral or inauspicious.
Which choghadiya are auspicious?
Amrit, Shubh and Labh are considered auspicious, and Char is neutral, good for travel. Rog, Kaal and Udveg are inauspicious and avoided for starting new work. Amrit is regarded as the best choghadiya. Each has a ruling planet: Amrit-Moon, Shubh-Jupiter, Labh-Mercury, Char-Venus, Rog-Mars, Kaal-Saturn and Udveg-Sun.
How is Choghadiya calculated?
The time from sunrise to sunset is divided into eight equal parts, and sunset to the next sunrise into eight more. The first daytime choghadiya belongs to the weekday's ruling planet, and the rest follow a fixed order. Because it uses sunrise and sunset, the timing changes with your city and date.
